Trauma-Free NYC Mourns the loss of Maureen Allwood, PhD

Trauma-Free NYC mourns the loss of Maureen Allwood, PhD

Dr. Maureen Allwood, an Associate Adjunct Professor and Trauma-Free NYC Steering Committee member, in the Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health at Mailman, unexpectedly passed away on March 4, 2024. Maureen studied the developmental effects of childhood trauma and violence exposure, and was a champion committed to addressing racial injustices within the criminal legal system, particularly for youth. She was the lead instructor for our spring course, Adverse Childhood Experiences and Trauma-Informed Care, and was beloved by our students, staff, and fellow faculty. Maureen was actively engaged in her role with Trauma-Free NYC, helping us grow and deepen our reach in New York City; she was our #1 cheerleader. She had an infectious smile, and her humble and warm nature made you feel as if you had always known each other. Maureen was incredibly wise, listened deeply, and always made herself available when you needed her as a thought-partner, advisor, and friend. We will miss you terribly, dear friend. Rest in peace.
